This month I decided to try something new. I have seen these wooden ornaments all over and I just had to try it! I could not believe you can stamp and color directly on these wood slices! How awesome is that?! I used three different Christmas stamp sets to complete this projects, but you really can use any stamp on this you would like. If you don't want to make ornaments, you could purchase the wood slices without the holes drilled in. 

I used wood slices that are pre-sanded. I figured it would be easier for the stamp to set on a flat surface. I did wipe them off first because there was residue on them from moving around in the packaging. I didn't want the ink to get on the residue and not stick to the surface. 

The first step in the process is to stamp an outline on your wood slices. I used Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and it worked just fine. I've seen other stampers also stamp background images, but the wood slices were so small so I decided to opt out of background stamps. They sell the wood slices in different sizes, so make sure you check the size before you purchase them. There were a few slices I had to use a smaller image with because they are all slightly different. They are natural wood slices, so they are not going to be the same size, nor the same shape. 

The second step in the process is a tad more complicated than I imagined. I colored my first ornament in with Blends and colored just like I would on paper. That was a mistake! The wood slices bleed! I don't mean they bleed a little, no they bleed pretty far out. When you color in your images, it is important to stay far from the lines and let it settle for at least 2-3 minutes. Once the time has elapsed, take your blend and fill in any spots that didn't get color. It's better to wait longer than to add more color right away. Hopefully this will save you from wasting a wood slice from too much color bleeding. 

The third step is to add Mod Podge to the top. I chose to use a matte finish because I wasn't sure if I would like any of the other options they offer. I am going to try the shiny and glittery finishes on other designs and determine which I like better. 

The last step is to add your ribbon. I decided to add two different ribbons to make these ornaments really pop! I tried to match the ribbons to the ornaments and really like how they turned out!
